Painting I

Suggested ages for this class: 7-11. Students will learn basic color wheel, value scale shading, intensity and variations while painting with acrylics on canvas boards. Students will learn the basics of perspective in landscape painting and still life painting. Students will also combine media with collage and acrylics on canvas.

Painting II

Suggested ages for this class: 12 and above. Students will begin shading and mixing color schemes to depict the styles of master artists with acrylics on canvas board.  Students will render an advanced landscape with a surrealistic theme.  This design theme will be explored through collage techniques.  Students will also combine media to complete paintings depicting study of world cultures and metaphorical expressions.  

Drawing I

Suggested ages for this class:  7-11. Drawing I is a basic course, which will provide the students with the opportunity to learn how simple shapes can be transformed into organic objects.  They will be introduced to different techniques used in drawing and explore different types of media or materials by completing hands-on projects.  Students will be encouraged to experiment with materials and explore a variety of ways to interpret their ideas in art.  Some of the media we will use in this course includes graphite pencil, charcoal, oil pastels, and pen and ink. 

Drawing II

Sugggested ages for this class: 12 and above. The objective of this class is to develop the connection between the mind and the hand by using line, value and composition.  The students are introduced to materials and techniques of drawing.  Drawings from natural, and man-made forms with particular emphasis on figure drawing.

Sculpture I

Suggested ages for this class: 7-11. Classes will introduce students to various forms and materials used in sculpture. Wire, plaster, clay, paper mache, found objects, and others will be incorporated into the themed lessons.

Sculpture II

Suggested ages for this clas: 12 and above. Three dimensional forms as well as color will be explored in this class.  Students will have the opportunity to create architectural and figural forms as well as participate in a large-scale group sculpture to be displayed outdoors at the Waterlife Museum.

Photography I

Suggested ages for this class: 7-11. This introductory course will provide the students with basic knowledge of photography.  They will begin by learning about the mechanics of a 35mm camera, how to work with natural and artificial light and various forms of compositions.  The students will also learn about darkroom techniques and experience firsthand how film is developed and prints are made.     

Photography II

Suggested ages for this class: 12 and above. This introductory class will cover  the same material in Photography I and allow the students to explore more in-depth techniques.

Printmaking

Suggested ages for this class: 7 and above. Students will learn several methods for creating original hand pulled prints including relief prints, rubbings and collagraphs (plate print).  Students will also learn about the printing press, and create prints on the press.

Papermaking

Suggested ages for this class: 7 and above. Students will learn the history of paper, different types of materials used to make paper, and paper pulps. Students will create sheets of hand-made paper using a hollander and will use them in several projects incorporating sculpture and painting.

Fiber Arts I

Suggested ages for this class: 7-11. This fine crafts class will utilize constructive and creative methods of working with clothing and fiber. Students will work on sewing machines and forms to deconstruct and design clothing using basic principles of design and fashion. Students may need additional supplies, notions, etc., not covered in the registration fee.

Fiber Arts II

Suggested ages for this class: 12 and above. This class will cover the same material as Fiber Arts I and allow for more in-depth techniques. Students may need additional supplies, notions, etc., not covered in the registration fee.
